What You Need to Know About Dermal Fillers

Orlando, FL

There are some things in life that you just can’t avoid, and aging is one of them.

You might notice the signs of aging on your face early, with fine lines and wrinkles popping up in key areas like around your eyes, across your forehead, and stretching from your nose to your mouth. Sometimes, aging is seen through the loss of volume from decreased collagen levels.

What if there was something you could do about these telltale signs of aging?

Fortunately, there is something you can do about it. Dermal fillers are a great treatment option for many people, and Vanitas Medical Group is proud to offer both Juvéderm and Restylane. How can these treatments help you? Learn more here!

The Basics of Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are a great way to plump up the skin, effectively eliminating some folds and furrows from the face. The treatments we use contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance that your body already produces. This ingredient works by hydrating your cells, naturally plumping up and restoring volume to the treatment area.

In addition to improving volume, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers also smooth tissue and reverse UV damage. Both of these attributes can slow down the appearance of aging on the skin.

One of the main reasons that hyaluronic acid fillers are thought to be effective is because they might be able to stimulate the production of new collagen. Collagen and elastin naturally decrease in the skin as you age, which results in loss of volume.

By stimulating the production of new collagen with dermal fillers, you gain long-term results in addition to the short-term gains in volume that come from plumping up the volume of the cells.

There are plenty of dermal fillers on the market today. Each one has its own mechanism and list of treatments that it is FDA-approved for. Let’s take a closer look at what you can expect from Juvéderm and Restylane.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm is a very versatile treatment option because it has five FDA-approved formulas that target different parts of the face:

  • Filling in hollow cheekbones (Juvéderm Voluma XC)
  • Softening fine lines and wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds (Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC or Vollure XC)
  • Creating fuller lips (Juvéderm Ultra XC)
  • Contouring and shaping the chin (Juvéderm Voluma XC)

Because it has such an impressive range of treatment options, millions of these injectables are delivered to patients year after year. Some have thicker formulas that can plump up certain parts of the face, while others are thinner and designed to minimize fine lines.

One of the benefits of going with a Juvéderm treatment is its longevity. Provided that you take care of your skin with quality products following treatment, you can see results last for one to two years. Juvéderm is great for busy professionals who have minimal time for pampering and follow-up appointments.

Restylane

Restylane is another leading name brand that has several treatment options for patients. Unlike Juvéderm, which can be used to smooth fine lines, Restylane is a bit more cohesive. This makes it perfect for adding volume or otherwise making some alterations to the shape of the face.

If you are interested in contouring your face, then Restylane may be the right choice.

These dermal fillers have another added benefit that Juvéderm is lacking: Restylane can treat the skin on the backs of the hands. This is another area where aging tends to appear early on, and you can get real results from Restylane.

Like Juvéderm, the results that you see with Restylane are long-lasting to minimize the need for many follow-up appointments.

The Ideal Candidate for Treatments

The ideal candidate for Juvéderm or Restylane dermal fillers is someone who is starting to see the effects of aging on their face or the backs of their hands. If you can benefit from some added volume or you have a specific concern about your facial aesthetics, we can help.

Dermal fillers are minimally invasive, making them great for someone who doesn’t want a lot of downtime. They can yield great results without the need for surgical treatments such as facelifts. This is why many people will turn to dermal fillers first and leave surgical options until much later on.

If you think that you may be an ideal candidate for dermal fillers, we will meet with you to review your medical history and aesthetic goals. This will help us determine whether you are eligible for this type of treatment.

The Treatment Session

When you come in for your first treatment session with either Juvéderm or Restylane, the process is mostly the same. It won’t take long for us to administer your treatment, with appointments lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. You will be able to return to your busy schedule as soon as your appointment is over.

While you are with us, we will start by numbing your treatment area with a local anesthetic or a cream. We won’t administer your dermal fillers until the skin is sufficiently numbed and ready for it. Once it is, we will give you the injections, and you are free to leave to go about your day.
